Hello! I am the Fred C. Frey Professor of Southern Studies at Louisiana State University and the current chairman of the History Department.  I teach courses on nineteenth-century US history, the Civil War and Reconstruction, and Southern History.  My work as a historian focuses on the US Civil War and its meaning for Americans and the world.
